Our Story

You may be thinking "Wait, I thought Mike was an Italian Jew and Gaby was a Peruvian Colombian..."

Why Portugal?

A few months after meeting in 2021 we wound up on the first flight from the US allowed into Portugal, just as borders reopened. We spent 3 weeks together traveling up and down the coast, including a stay at Areias do Seixo. We've been coming back to Portugal almost every year since, so after we got engaged this was the first place we thought of for our wedding!

We're so excited to be in one of our most favorite places with our most favorite people. 💖

Areias do Seixo

Getting There

Travel

Areias do Seixo is about an hour north of Lisbon on the Atlantic coast.

Flights

Fly into Lisbon (LIS) or Porto (OPO)

Fly into Humberto Delgado Airport in Lisbon (LIS) if you're heading straight to the hotel - it is 55 minutes north on the A8. Direct service from most major US cities on TAP, United, and Delta. Plan to arrive Thursday evening or early morning Friday!

Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport in Porto (OPO) is worth considering if you want to spend a few days traveling down the coast first.

Getting Around

Car, Shuttle, or Uber

We'll arrange shuttle pickups from central Lisbon to Areias do Seixo on Friday — details to come.

Alternatively:

  • Renting a car is easy. Parking is available at Areias do Seixo hotel.
  • Uber works too, and is much cheaper in Portugal than in NYC.

Where You'll Be

Stay

Venue

Areias do Seixo

We've reserved the entire hotel for the wedding weekend. Most rooms are in private villas scattered across the property — we'll be placing guests personally, so don't book directly for Friday + Saturday night. Breakfast is included every morning.

If you have room preferences or are traveling with specific people, just let us know in the RSVP!

At the Hotel

What to expect

The hotel has it all: ocean swims, surf, spa, pool (October is a coin flip), dune walks down to the beach, morning yoga, and a restaurant that is an absolute delight! It's designed to make it so you won't need to leave :). Plan for at least a full day before or after the wedding.

While You're Here

Day Trips near Areias do Seixo

The hotel is a great home base for some easy day trips if you get in early or stick around.

  • Sintra is 45 minutes south — fairytale land of castles built into the hillside.
  • Ericeira is 25 minutes away and has become a cute cobblestone surf town.
  • Peniche is 20 minutes up the coast — the beach at Baleal is a very cool visit if you have a car, with ocean on both sides of the road while you drive.
  • Nazaré is 1 hour north, home to 100ft waves during big swells.

Before & After

Most people are making this a longer trip — here are our recommendations!

Sintra
Portugal
1

Lisbon + Cascais

Start or end in Lisbon

Give it at least two days. Príncipe Real for restaurants and wine bars, Alfama for the old city. If you want a beach-town feel with easy access to the city, stay in Cascais instead — 30 minutes from Lisbon by train. We like to go straight to Cascais (Hotel Albatroz or Farol Hotel).

2

Sintra

Day trip from Lisbon

45 minutes from Lisbon — fairytale castles built into a forested hillside. Worth a full day visit or a couple of nights if you want to slow down.

3

Porto + Douro Valley

Northern Portugal

Porto is one of the most charming cities in Europe — river, ocean, tile facades, great food. From there you can head into the Douro Valley for a day or two of wine and river life.

4

Arrábida National Park

South of Lisbon

About 45 minutes south of Lisbon — huge cliffs, turquoise water, mostly empty beaches. We've stayed at Hotel Casa Palmela, a huge estate turned into a luxury boutique hotel.

5

Alentejo — our favorite

Wild coast, nothing like tourist Portugal

Quieter and wilder than anywhere else on this list. Feels like the southern part of Big Sur, but more mellow. We've been going for years, usually staying at Cabeça da Cabra — a small country house run by Maria, who has become a friend. You'll need a car, and the trip is mostly beach hopping along a coastline that feels perfectly remote. Reach out and we'll connect you with Maria directly!

6

Algarve

Best bet for beach weather

The southern coast — warm water, reliable October sun. It's ~3 hours from the hotel so it works best as a separate leg of the trip, before or after.

Questions

All the Things!

Can I bring a plus-one?

Only if your invitation included one.

Are children invited?

The Welcome BBQ & Wedding are both adults only.

What's the dress code?

Festival formal! Think long or short fun dresses, epic pant suits, sequins, elegance! Bright colors highly encouraged! For men, suits and ties are great! October runs 64–72°F — so be sure to bring a layer for the evening. Block heels or flats are your friend on the cobblestones.

How do I confirm my hotel reservation?

Most guests will be in multi-bedroom villas - we'll handle all the placement! Once you submit your RSVP (RSVP button below), you are essentially confirmed! The hotel will then follow up a few months leading up to the wedding to share exact villa details and the link to submit payment. Cost per night for villa rooms on Friday + Saturday will range between ~$200/nt - ~$350/nt.

Extra Nights?

If you're adding nights before or after the wedding, let us know in the RSVP and we'll do our best to keep you in the same villa the whole stay. All guests get 10% off the listed rate that you see on the website.

If you'd prefer a private hotel room for the extra nights, you can book that directly with the hotel.

Dietary restrictions?

Note them when you RSVP – we got you! ;)

Will Gaby & Mike be surfing the morning of the wedding?

Mike: hopefully. Gaby: unlikely, BUT will be absolutely doing an AM wedding morning dip and forcing others to do the same.

Will you join us?

Please let us know by June 1, 2026.

Deadline: June 1, 2026
